Rona Silverton

Dr. Silverton is an experienced Ph.D. psychotherapist specializing in treating patients with body-focused repetitive behaviors (hair pulling/skin picking/nail biting). Working from a supportive psychotherapy perspective, she utilizes Habit Reversal Training, cognitive therapy, mindfulness/relaxation-breathing and hypnosis techniques to interrupt the compulsive behavior. EMDR (eye movement desensitization) may be used to enhance treatment. Longer psychodynamic techniques are utilized to help patients maintain abstinence by dealing with understanding the symptom, how it serves a purpose to regulate emotion, its impact on their lives, feelings of shame and humiliation, hypersensitivity to their body, and general feelings of self-dissatisfaction, low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety.
